The ILTS Testlet Model
Select ILTS tests feature a modular structure consisting of multiple testlets. The testlets break up the test into shorter measures, each focused on one content area.
Each testlet makes a contribution to your total test score, and once a testlet has been scored, that result is “banked” toward your cumulative test score.
Passing a testlet-based test requires:
- Taking all the testlets
- Meeting the minimum requirement on each testlet
- Having testlet results that, together, produce a test-level score of 220 or higher
Note: For each testlet, you must reach a minimum required score (i.e., a minimum requirement) representative of showing some knowledge in that area of content.
While you can take the full test in one testing appointment, you also have flexibility in how you take or retake the testlets that make up the test.
- You can start by taking only testlets for which you feel most prepared. For example, you can choose to take a testlet to align with the completion of that part of the program coursework, thereby creating much tighter linkages between learning, testing, and feedback.
- When you have taken all testlets but have not passed—because results are banked—you can choose which testlets to retake, looking to identify based on your testlet results where there are good opportunities to improve toward passing.
